Talento Territories

Talento Territories

The entire Italian peninsula, from the Alps to Sicily, is rich in territories with characteristics that are suitable for producing quality Talento wines. The cultivation of the base varietals of Talento wine is historically concentrated in a few Northern regions of Italy. Consequently, it is in these regions of Northern Italy that DOC appellations were created for Talento production. With the ever-increasing diffusion of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Bianco, the actual production zones for these varietals are expanding into emerging areas.

Alto Adige

The South Tyrolean valleys have a long tradition of cultivating the three Talento varietals; so much so that South Tyrolean Talento wines are among those that most frequently blend all three of the varietals, creating a rich and complex final product.

The South Tyrolean Talento wines are generally produced under the Talento Alto Adige DOC appellation.

Trentino

In Trentino, the sparkling traditions are among the most historic and consolidated in Italy. Trento DOC is one of the four appellations reserved exclusively for sparkling metodo classico, giving life to the Talento Trento DOC appellation.

In the production of Talento wines from Trentino, it is decidedly the prevalence of Chardonnay that gives the final wine notes of extreme elegance.

Friuli

Friuli enjoys climatic conditions that make it ideal for the production of Talento varietals.

The attention granted to sparkling production is relatively recent, but given the environmental conditions and the ability of Friuli wineries, the region's sparkling wines are at an exceptional level, despite the lack of a specific DOC appellation for the sparkling metodo classico.

Veneto

This region boasts the largest wine production in Italy, the majority of which are white wines.

The great international success of Prosecco has caused it to become the dominant sparkling production in the region. While the quantity of Talento wines produced here is limited, the region has all of the qualities necessary for it to be a major player in the category.

Lombardia

Of the four appellations reserved for sparkling metodo classico, two are located in Lombardia.

In the hilly zone south of the Po, wedged between Emilia-Romagna and Piemonte, we find the Oltrepò Pavese zone, an area with a long tradition of producing metodo classico made from Pinot Noir under the appellation Oltrepò Pavese Metodo Classico DOCG. Here the Talento Rosé is the undisputed leader of Talento production with excellent structure and quality. The Talento Oltrepo` Pavese Metodo Classico DOCG is also called Cruasé.

The other Lombard appellation reserved for sparkling metodo classico, Franciacorta, has chosen to focalize its communication exclusively on the name of the territory even though they are Talento wines. These wines do not use the collective name Talento, just as they do not indicate sparkling wine on their labels.

Piemonte

In the mid 1800’s, Piemonte produced the first Italian sparkling metodo classico. In the 1900’s, the worldwide success of Asti caught the attention of Piemonte producers, especially dessert and sparkling wine producers. There are areas of the region extremely favorable for the production of Talento wine. The Alta Langa yields outstanding brut wines under the Alta Langa DOC appellation.

Italy

The Talento category is adaptable to many territories and favors a future growth in the third pillar of quality, Italian sparkling wines.
